EXAMPLE 07 OF 16 · Easy
Read an Ethereum wallet snapshot
Read a public ETH balance and the current block number, then collect the results in a simple report.
Before you begin#
- Sign in, choose the Browser runtime, and select Cloud RPC. A complete run needs 30 credits. See Ethereum setup.
- Set walletAddress in workflow Globals to a public Ethereum address. No private key, connection, or funded wallet is required.
- Leave Test mode on for the first run. It selects Ethereum test data automatically.
Walk through the workflow#
- Ethereum block number reads the latest height on the selected network.
- ETH balance reads walletAddress on that same network. Both nodes verify the network before reading.
- Variable collects the address, ETH and wei amounts, network, and observed block number. Inspect this output and compare it with the two read nodes.
- Stop the run before changing Test mode. Turning it off reads mainnet; the address stays the same but the balance and block number can differ.
Check the report#
For an illustrative test balance of 1 ETH, eth is "1", wei is "1000000000000000000", and network is "sepolia". The address and observedBlock reflect your run. A report with eth "0" and wei "0" is also a successful read.
Keep amounts precise#
The Variable node preserves the decimal strings returned by ETH balance. Keep wei as a string, or use BigInt in Code for exact integer calculations. Reading native ETH does not list ERC-20 tokens.
Understand the request cost#
Block number costs 10 credits and balance costs 20. Each also makes a zero-credit network check: four requests and 30 credits for a complete run. Test mode does not make Cloud RPC free. These are separate latest-state reads; observedBlock is context, not a guarantee that the balance was read at that exact block.
If the report is empty or unexpected#
Check walletAddress in workflow Globals and inspect the first node that failed. Mainnet funds do not appear on the test network. For a network mismatch, check Test mode and your custom endpoint. For busy-service or insufficient-credit errors, follow Cloud RPC guidance.
